Response to crazy ol' Christian coot

I came across this nonsense yesterday from OpEdNews. Unfortunately they make you jump through hoops in order to comment, so I'll just do it here.

"It was just generally accepted that our founders were Christian and that it was the Christian influence that gave rise to our principles and institutions."

No doubt it was. A lie told enough times will become accepted as truth.

"Thanks to government schools and the teaching of the general theory of organic evolution there has been a rise of militant atheism."

Perhaps thanks to attempts to educate children they don't blindly accept mistaken beliefs like yours above, Bill. They know the truth of their nation's history, it's founding and founders, and also they learn about much more like science and the scientific method of inquiry.

"The atheist simply ignores the proposition set out in our Declaration of Independence that our rights come from our Creator"

You sir simply ignore a great deal of our history and the circumstances at the time of our revolt. The nations of the world were monarchies, so not only did our Declaration of Independence put us at risk from British reprisal, it also put us at risk of reprisal from other monarchs, for they could see our revolt as thumbing our noses at the institution of monarchical government. But see, every monarch laid claim to authority by claiming it came from a god, and they were put on their thrones to do his bidding. Our Declaration actually makes the claim that George was in breach of contract, effectively not doing the bidding of god. That's a different story, and it worked to keep others out of the war; furthermore, had that not been stated that way, we may never have gotten France's aid, and thus, never won our Independence.

"The dominate theology of the founders was Christianity..."

The dominate practice of the founders was slavery, too. So what? In fact, not only do I reject your claim that they were mostly Christian, I would also say each who claimed to be Christian had very different ideas about what that meant. Try looking at Jefferson's bible some time.

Also Bill, I think you should consider not just reading up on your nation's history, world history and ancient history, but also yoru bible. The principles our nation was founded one do not come from the bible. Equality? I don't think so. Democracy? Nope. Freedom of religion? Absolutely not. Slavery certainly, but thankfully we've overcome such things.

Don't let him off so easily on The Declaration of Independence. Every person, good man or monster, who ever went to war did so with god at his side.

But how about going on to the actual LAWS that those founders wrote up. You know, that OTHER document... uh... The Constitution, or something? Where is his Judeo Christian God mentioned in the LAWS?

I kind of feel bad for Christians. They don't know how fucked in the ass they really are if they think the 10 commandments are the law of the land. It's almost diabolical that they would be looking at the world through such vague and inaccurate understanding of what their rights really are. Ugh, another thing is that they discount materialism and science too. By the time Christians get out of their indoctrination they really have learned nothing that will help them get ahead in life, it's almost like inviting failure, it's almost like complete abuse....is there any wonder they all wish to be raptured up by Jesus, which is really the only hope they have left in life and that concept falls miserably miserably short every 4-8 years or so?

I've seen a new depth of the iceberg of the reality of religion and it disgusts me. I'm also disgusted by public education for not teaching critical thinking and logical reasoning too. Ugh!

....I'm on my way to ruling this piece of shit world we live in, I've got a wise gameplan to be plenty snobbered in 4-5 years, I just wish I was taught all that I now know when I was younger instead of "Jesus Loves Me" when I was a kid.

The entire article is pretty ridiculous. Could you imagine arguing something based on ""It was just generally accepted that..."?

Are you kidding me?

"....I'm on my way to ruling this piece of shit world we live in, I've got a wise gameplan to be plenty snobbered in 4-5 years... yada, yada, yada..."Delusions of grandeur are a hallmark of the dictatorial elitist class, Quiff... you should know better, but, I guess you don't.

And, why are you so worried about Christians? You atheists are always saying we need to butt out of your affairs, and, here you are preaching atheism to theists! See? You're as religious as any Christian could ever be!

Navajo Joe is right... the "It is just generally accepted" excuse is bullshit... and that is Humanism's mission statement in it's entirety. Science (Humanism) says it's so, therefore it's gospel. Anyone that wants to disagree with the status quo, can reap the consequences!

John: the constitution was drawn up by pagans... Freemasons, with an agenda of conquering a new country. Too much to go into, here, but, suffice to say that God has nothing in common with the good 'ol US of A!

Maybe Quiff will be the figure mentioned prominently in Revelation 13, a totalitarian that forces all to serve him and his agenda?

All hail the emperor with no clothes!

If someone can believe that a magical old guy in the sky is watching over them, even while they shower, then they surely believe anything is possible. Even an America built on "Christian" values, instead of solid, humanist reasoning.

Age is apparently no guarantee of intelligence.

That's a relief!You rock, Evo :)
